(OTCBB:SKNY) WEEKLY UPDATE -MARKETS MIXED AFTER HARSH START TO WEEK The past week was one in which stock markets in North America showed amazing resilience. After suffering near-burial experiences on Monday, both markets in New York and the S&P TSX Composite Index staged massive comebacks. Toronto finished the week in the black, while Wall Street’s fortunes were a bit spottier.

The TSX index took a 454-point pasting Monday, only to erase that with four straight gaining sessions, to finish at 10,389.76, that is, more than 101 points higher, or 0.99%. The TSX Venture Exchange was seven points down on the week – or 0.64% at 1,111.59.

The Nasdaq Composite Index was up again on the week, gaining on four of five days, to 1,838.22, up almost 11 points, or 0.59%. The Dow Jones suffered similar gyrations, off four of five sessions on the week, to finish Friday at 8,438.39, a weekly loss of 135.34, or 1.58%.

The S&P 500 was down three of five days to finish nearly three points off on the week at 918.89, or 0.25%.

The trouble started when the World Bank adjusted its reading on how world economies would fare this year, saying it was worse than initially projected. But as the week wore on, more positive vibes made themselves felt;among them, first-quarter U.S. Gross Domestic Product, while still negative, was only 5.5% in the red, ahead of predictions.

Elsewhere, the U.S. government`s report on durable goods showed an increase of 1.8% in May. This was a turnabout from the 0.9% decline that was expected by a consensus of economists surveyed by Briefing.com.

The government slightly revised its durable goods report for April to a gain of 1.8%.

Also in the U.S., May new home sales fell to a 342,000 annualized unit rate, from a 344,000 annualized rate in April. Economists thought sales would rise to a 360,000 unit annualized rate.

It was also the end of an era for one of Canada`s oldest companies as Nortel Networks Corp. shares were delisted from the TSX.

The word came after the former Canadian tech heavyweight signed a deal to sell most of its wireless business to Nokia Siemens Networks B. V. for $650 million U.S. and said it`s in advanced talks to sell the rest of its operations, winding down a company with a 127-year-old history in Canada. Nortel has been restructuring under court protection from creditors.

Nortel shares closed Friday at 18.5 cents - a far cry from the high of $124.50 from July 2000 when the company accounted for more than one-third of the value of all the companies listed on the TSX.

In a holiday-abbreviated week, look for Canadian Gross Domestic Product for April on Tuesday, as well as prices for raw materials and industrial products. Stateside, Consumer Confidence figures roll in on Tuesday, auto sales on Wednesday, and job figures on Thursday.

Those who heeded our spotlight on Law Enforcement Associates Corp.

(OTCBB: LAWE) last week are likely thanking themselves this week. This stock zoomed 84.4%over four winning sessions – 24.5% on Friday alone – to close at 0.498 cents, a 52-week high. The gains were not so steep for Urigen Pharmaceuticals Inc (OTCBB: URGP), but they were there – a cent and a half, or 21.5%, to eight and a half cents. URGP gained two of five days, holding its own the other three.

Canadian stocks Bioniche Life Sciences Inc. (TSX:BNC) added strength on three of five trading days, for a respectable 8.5% gain (three cents) to 38 cents, while compatriot Mooncor Oil And Gas Corp.

(TSX-Venture:MOO)picked up a penny – or 4% - in three of five positive sessions, to 26 cents.

The stocks in question gained, on average, 29.4%, largely on the strength of LAWE.

Stocks to watch this week include Canadian resource company Fission Energy Corp. (TSX-Venture: FIS), oil and natural gas concern Dejour Enterprises (TSX:DEJ), MMR Information Systems Inc. (OTCBB: MMRF), who provides online personal health records, and Skinny Nutritional Corp.

(OTCBB: SKNY) a beverage maker catering to the weight-loss crowd.
